Chapter: The One Where Akagi Cries on the Bench

After making a spectacular three-shot, Rukawa passes by his teammates.

Hands up for a high-five from Ryota.

Hands up for a high-five from Mitsui.
Hands up for high-five from Sakuragi -- who refuses, of course. Heh. (But hey, Rukawa, it's the thought that counts!)
Chapter: The One Where Sakuragi Realises His Basketball Career May Be at Stake

On the bench, Ayako asks Sakuragi about his back, and only then does Sakuragi realise that if the back injury is serious enough, it could end his life as a basketball player.

Silently, he trudges down the bench to look down at Rukawa, searching for... (Reassurance? Confirmation? I can only guess blindly, because it’s not like Rukawa’s opinion ever matters to him, so it has to be something Rukawa himself represents, which could be that the competition is that much more personal than it used to be). Whatever he’s looking for, he presumably finds it, because he suddenly turns around and laughs maniacally, claiming that the tensai is a-okay.

Side note, that look Rukawa gives Sakuragi always makes me think of the cliché “peering up through his lashes.” Ahem.
