Chapter: The One Where Rukawa *Smiles* at Sawakita. (O_o)

As the Shohoku and Sannoh super players face-off, Sawakita tells Rukawa that he (Sawakita) is going to the US after the games are over, and that he's glad to have had the chance to beat the Shohoku player before he leaves.

Rukawa is initially surprised, but then welcomes the challenge, and he tells Sawakita that he (Rukawa) has also made decided to go to the US. [Please note, this is the first time Rukawa has vocalised this decision out loud to someone other than Anzai-sensei.]

Conveniently enough, Sakuragi is the only other Shohoku player within the vicinity as Rukawa makes his announcement. And Sakuragi turns to look at Rukawa in surprise, the expression on his face just reveals the turning of wheels in his head.

Although Sakuragi doesn't say anything at this time, he will proclaim his thoughts a little while later... ^.~
Chapter: The One Where Rukawa Traps Sawakita with Surprise Passes
 


Sakuragi saves another Sannoh rebound, and up behind him comes Rukawa, wanting Sakuragi to pass the ball to him. Sakuragi, being Sakuragi, stubbornly refuses (foreshadow! foreshadow!), but he takes this opportunity to tell Rukawa that since he (Rukawa)'s going to the US, Sakuragi wants to go, too.

Honestly, this ain't much of a yaoi hint. Then why did I put it here? Well, because it just goes to show how much Rukawa riddles on Sakuragi's mind and strengthens his resolve to improve himself as a player. It's Sakuragi's split-second decision in response to Rukawa's statement earlier (previous page), even if Sakuragi himself may not fully understand what going to US would mean. I reckon only Haruko would've been able to illicit such a response in Sakuragi.
